Early operations have good effect on carpal tunnel syndrome in patients on long-term hemodialysis.

Abstract

In 121 patients on long-term hemodialysis (HD), we found 12 cases with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).21.6% of patients, undergoing hemodialysis for more than 10 years, were suffering from CTS.16 hands of 9 cases were operated on. All hands were relieved from noctual pain immediately after operation.At surgery, we found amyloid deposit on tenosynovium of flexor tendons, and median nerves were oppressed in 8 hands.The sooner they were operated on, the better results they got. Conservative treatments have no effect on carpal tunnel syndrome in patients on hemodialysis.
