A CASE OF INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION CAUSED BY MECKEL'S DIVERTICULUM

Abstract

We report a case of intestinal obstruction caused by Meckel's diverticulum in a 19-year-old male. The patient, who had an episode of bowel obstruction 7 months ago, came to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain and admitted with a diagnosis of intestinal obstruction. At the time of surgery a small Meckel's diverticulum about 1 cm in hight was found in the ileum 50cm from the terminal ileum, and an adhesive band between the mesenterium and the diverticulum was observed. A segment of the ileum about 30cm was incarcerated by the adhesive band. Meckel's diverticulum commonly occurs in the childhood, however, when we treat young adults with intestinal obstruction who have not undergone laparotomy, a possibility of the disease should be remembered.
