Abstract
Summary Perforating, creating holes in the casing or the liner and the surrounding cement sheath to allow fluid communication between the formation and the wellbore, is a crucial part of the completion process. Advances in perforation technology have reflected the changing needs of the oil and gas industries. The petroleum industry welcomes new perforation technologies that not only create holes effectively but also minimize the formation damage. This paper will present the feasibility study results of application of laser technology to perforation completions and focus on methods for creating deep holes in rocks by laser system. In the present feasibility study, we compare the results of laser perforation tests conducted in two types of reservoir rocks, namely limestone and sandstone, at different laser power and specific energy.
