Abstract

We report the results of revision total hip arthroplasty with allografts. From January 1988 to November 1999, we performed 7 revision total hip arthroplasies with allografts. The indications for revision were aseptic loosening in 6 hips and recurrent dislocation in 1 hip. HIV infection is one of the possible complications associated with bone allografts. In order to prevent infection, we performed heat treatment. There was no complication and a majority showed satisfactory results with evidence of incorporation of the grafts. Further study and review are necessary, but the use of the allografts in revision total hip arthroplasty appears to be justified.
