Abstract
A new method is described for restoring conduction in a middle ear containing no ossicles. Use is made of an autogenous “L” bone strut or Teflon prosthesis as an “incus” replacement. The latter is stabilized in a tegmen tympani fenestra to avoid slippage, and it also aids in the formation of a middle ear space. Around the “incus” a wire prosthesis is crimped and suspended to make contact with the oval window. Two cases are 2½ years after operation and one case 18 months postoperatively.
