For nonuniform cofinite Fuchsian groups $\Gamma$ that satisfy acertain additional geometric condition, we show that the Maass cuspforms for $\Gamma$ are isomorphic to $1$-eigenfunctions of afinite-term transfer operator. The isomorphism is constructive.
