Abstract

When the a. c. commutator motor is used in the case of a. c. electrification of railway, heavy current flows under brushes. The contact drop voltages of brushes at such high current densities are reported in this paper.The next following results were obtained:i. contact resistance drop in the brush itself can not be neglected.ii. the brush resistance change due to the high temperature must be taken account of.
