A CASE OF EPIDERMOID CYST IN THE SPLEEN

Abstract

A 29-year-old woman who complained of pain in left hypochondrial region underwent splenectomy under a diagnosis of splenic cyst. Histopathologically, it was epidermoid cyst because of stratified squamous epithelium in its lining and several microcysts. Epidermoid cyst is very rare and classified as the true cyst owing to the epithelial lining. The genesis of epidermoid cyst in the spleen has been presumed the migration from the other tissues in embryonic period, but it is not quite clear. We have reported a epidermoid cyst in the spleen found at a woman who is 5 weeks pregnant, together With some consideration about 46 cases already reported in Japan.
