本論文は, 自動測定装置によるわだち掘れ深さ測定データを, 定量的に解析する方法を提案し, 首都高速道路に適用した応用例をいくつか示すものである. この種の測定データは, 膨大な量の蓄積があるが, 従来, 定量的な解析に用いられることはほとんどなかった. 著者らは, これらのデータと補修履歴をつきあわせ, わだち掘れ量が供用年数ごとに統計的分布をすることを明らかにして, 経年変化, 将来予測などを得ている.
