Abstract

This article presents the result of a survey that describes the changes in the operations and role of private fleets since 1980. The article also reviews the relevant literature, describes the research methodology and results, and discusses conclusions and the need for further research. Since 1980 a number of studies have described changes in the for-hire trucking industry following the Motor Carrier Act of 1980. However, little attention has been paid to the impact of regulatory change on private fleets.
