Abstract

Numbers of greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood), adults caught on yellow sticky traps in greenhouse tomato crops provided significant predictions of whitefly populations on plants. A density of 10 traps per 180 plants was required to produce meaningful predictions. A density of 0.01 to 0.1 whiteflies per plant could be detected. Traps suppressed whitefly populations, and may be used to detect the first invasion and monitor populations of the greenhouse whitefly.
