Abstract

Larvae of the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), reared continuously on a meridic diet lost their ability to survive on a susceptible inbred line of dent corn, but survival equal to that of wild borers could be recovered by 1 backcross to the wild parent. The trait is therefore genetically controlled.
