Abstract
NOVOBIOCIN (Cathomycin) is a new antibiotic isolated from cultures of Streptomyces spheroides 1 and effective in vitro against a variety of gram-positive bacteria.2 , 3 Among the gram-positive micro-organisms the staphylococci are particularly sensitive to the action of this antibiotic. Of special interest is its reported efficacy against strains of staphylococci resistant to other antibiotics. The present report deals with the in vitro anti-microbial activity of novobiocin and its efficacy in the treatment of a variety of surgical infections due to staphylococci and other gram-positive bacteria largely resistant, in vitro and in patients, to other antibiotics. This series includes for the most part . . .
