Abstract
species size (the midpoint of the range of hatchling total lengths) is slightly above the formal level of significance in each case. The two measures of species size are themselves significantly correlated. The two most glaring areas of ignorance with regard to clutch size in crocodilians are: 1.) the species for which clutch sizes are either unknown or only poorly known and 2.) the relationship between clutch size and female size within species. * * * The purpose of this paper is to summarize the available published data on clutch size in living crocodilians and to show that there is a significant positive correlation between clutch size and species size within the group. I also include brief comments on our general ignorance of certain other aspects of clutch size in crocodilians, specifically our complete or nearly complete ignorance of clutch size in almost one-quarter of the species and our very limited understanding of the intraspecific relationship between clutch size and female size in most species.
