Abstract
A field study was conducted to evaluate three combination viz., seed treatment with thiamethoxam 70 WS + spray with imidacloprid 17.8 SL, seed treatment with thiamethoxam 30 FS + spray with imidacloprid 17.8 SL, seed treatment with imidacloprid 17.8 SL + spray with thiamethoxam 30 FS and six insecticides alone viz., quinalphos, profenofos, azadirachtin, lambda-cyhalothrin, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid against thrips on cowpea. This indicated that seed treatment with thiamethoxam 30 FS + spray with imidacloprid 17.8 SL, seed treatment with imidacloprid 17.8 SL + spray with thiamethoxam 30 FS and seed treatment with thiamethoxam 70 WS + spray with imidacloprid 17.8 SL were the most effective treatments for the control of thrips in cowpea followed by thiamethoxam and imidacloprid alone. Whereas, effects of quinalphos, profenofos, azadirachtin and lambda-cyhalothrin did not show distinctive effect on the thrips population.
