A Traffic State Estimation Method Based on the Road Traffic Information Templates

Abstract

The accurate acquisition of traffic state data is the most important aspect of Intelligent Transportation Systems, which can effectively solve traffic problems such as traffic jams and traffic safety. Though the technology for acquisition of traffic state has developed greatly, problems such as data invalidation still exist and have not been effectively settled. The concept of the road traffic information templates is thus put forward in this paper. The road traffic states are divided into several different modes, and data from road traffic detectors are extracted to obtain road traffic information templates. The conditions suitable for road traffic information templates are also discussed in this paper. Finally, two typical expressways in Beijing are adopted for the application of the road traffic information templates. The results prove that this road traffic information templates approach is feasible in the area of traffic state estimation.
