Abstract

A strain of Myrmecridium was isolated from farmland soil in Guizhou Province, China. The strain produced distinctive obovoid or fusoid conidia that taper to a subtruncate darkened hilum at the base that distinguished it from other Myrmecridium species. Phylogenetic analysis of combined ITS1–5.8S–ITS2 and large subunit rDNA sequences supported this morphological separation. We describe Myrmecridium obovoideum as new and provide a key to Myrmecridium species.
