Abstract
The percentage of diapausing larvae of the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), was determined at various fluctuating temperatures and photoperiods. The percentages were adjusted for decreasing photoperiods and used in a multiple linear regression equation. This equation is ŷ = 415.9 + (—4.5 * TEMPC) + (—20.6 * PHOTO), where ŷ is the percent of diapause, TEMPC is the avg daily temperature in °C, and PHOTO is the photophase in hours. Percentage diapause predicted by using the equation was similar to the observed percentage of diapausing larvae collected on several dates and from several locations.
