原因不明消化管出血（obscure gastrointestinal bleeding）に対するカプセル内視鏡の診断能は，プッシュ式小腸内視鏡，小腸X線造影検査，CTアンギオグラフィーと比較し優れていると報告されている．ダブルバルーン小腸内視鏡との比較において診断率はほぼ同等と報告されているものが多い．保険適用ではないが，Crohn病に対するカプセル内視鏡の有用性も海外から報告されている．
