Abstract
Positron emission tomography is a valuable aid in the diagnosis of atypical cases of giant cell arteritis, Takayasu arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica. It has broadened our knowledge on the vascular involvement in these disorders and has thrown new light on the relationship of giant cell arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica. Keywords: Positron emission tomography, 18 fluoro-deoxyglucose, vasculitis, giant cell arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, Takayasu arteritis, chronic periaortitis, aortitis, aorta, inflammation
