Dyeing behavior of non-ionic (disperse) dyes on nylon 6, polyethylene terephthalate and triacetate fibers from organic solvents has been studied, and following results are obtained.(1) The absorption isotherms are best expressed as a formula according to Nernst's partition law.(2) The partition coefficients, affinities of dyeing and heats of dyeing from organic solvents are much smaller than those which one would expect from an aqueous dyeing system.(3) The diffusion coefficients are very different by combination of fiber and solvent, rates of diffusion increase greatly with increasing degrees of swelling of fibers by solvents.(4) The swelling of fibers are correlated with the solubility parameter of the solvents. The degree of maximum swelling takes place with solvents whose solubility parameter is similar to that of fibers.
