Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relation between traffic information and travel time reliability of road network. The indices to evaluate travel time reliability are estimated by the simple macroscopic simulations with different quality of traffic information. The traffic flow simulation used in this study explicitly considers drivers' route choice behaviors under provision of dynamic traffic information. This study shows a possibility that dynamic information may influences the travel time reliability of road network. Some basic findings obtained through the preliminary analyses are as follows. 1) The descriptive information on travel time might lead to deterioration of travel time reliability, especially in the case where the network traffic condition tends to be unstable. 2) Providing the additional information like short-term trend of travel time might improve travel time reliability.
