In the past few years, there have been some changes in the Japanese newsprint market. Lower newsprint basis weight, higher speed of offset printing, and more frequent use of color printing are prevailing. Those trends require changes in paper property as well as the improvement in sheet quality. Better management of press fabrics is becoming more important under those circumstances. In this paper, our recent developments at Tomakomai mill in the management of press fabrics of newsprint machines are presented.
