Forms of Soil Potassium in Western Part of Haryana

Abstract

Distribution of different forms of potassium was studied in the soils of western part of Haryana state. The analysis of 61 samples obtained from 12 profiles showed that these contained total K from 1.02 to 2.02%, concentrated HCI soluble K from 916 to 4638 ppm, IN HN03 soluble K from 131 to 675 |ppm, normal ammonium acetate extractable Kfrom 16 to 197 ppm, and water soluble K from 2 to 38 ppm. The total, cone. HCl soluble, IN HN03 soluble and ammonium acetate K were positively correlated with per cent silt and clay and negatively so with sand, indicating that the finer particles contained higher amount of potassium as compared with coarse fractions. All the forms of K were directly related to each other, except water soluble K which had positive relationship with ammonium acetate extractable and 1N HNO3 soluble K only.
