Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is one of the major reasons for tooth loss in adults. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the reasons for tooth loss among Haldia Population. Materials and methods:  A Cross sectional study was conducted from the data of a total no of 570 patients (male-313 and females-257) attended the outpatient clinic with tooth loss. The Socio demographic details and cause of tooth loss were collected; causes other than dental caries and periodontal disease were excluded. Results: The highest proportion of tooth loss was due to periodontitis than caries. Conclusion: Periodontitis is the major cause for loosing tooth.
