Abstract
Geotextiles have found extensive use in erosion control structures in the coastal environment because of their economy, applicable and consistent properties, and general ease of installation. The geotextile properties considered important for these applications are puncture and tear resistance (mechanical properties), pore size and water permeability (hydraulic properties), and durability (environmental properties). Based on the evaluation of existing erosion control structures incorporating geotextiles relationships are presented which allow these geotextile property requirements to be calculated.
