Abstract
This work reports on the development of a file server for the AppleTalk Local Area Network and on performance measurements of mean and maximum transfer times as well as mean and system throughputs against packet size, acknowledge window size, the AppleTalk Transaction Protocol transmission time-out, file size, and number of requesters. The report discusses (i) the protocol architecture of the AppleTalk local area network, (ii) relevant programming tools, and the algorithms for the File Server System and remarks on its implementation, and (iii) results of performance measurements.
