Abstract
Bionomics of thrips, Pseudodendrothrips mori (NIWA) on mulberry was studied under laboratory conditions at Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture, Raichur, during 2011–12. P. mori eggs were inserted in the leaf tissue near the midrib and side veins. The incubation period noticed was 6.17 ± 0.24 days. It had two nymphal instars, pre-pupa and pupa with duration of 2.70 ± 0.32, 3.53 ± 0.40, 1.10 ± 0.21 and 2.30 ± 0.25 days, respectively. The longevity of male and female was 4.57 ± 0.42 days and 6.70 ± 0.37 days, respectively. Pre-oviposition, oviposition and post oviposition periods were averaged to 2.17 ± 0.24, 2.23 ± 0.26 and 1.87 ± 0.35 days, respectively and the average fecundity was 15.30 ± 1.71 eggs. The total life cycle was averaged to 20.94 ± 1.17 days. The average lengths and breadths of the egg, first and second nymphal instars, pre-pupa and pupa were 0.24 ± 0.03 and 0.12 ± 0.03, 0.79 ± 0.04 and 0.22 ± 0.03, 0.81 ± 0.20 and 0.24 ± 0.03, 0.79 ± 0.08 and 0.19 ± 0.03 and 0.81 ± 0.02 and 0.21 ± 0.04 mm, respectively. The average length and breadth of male was 0.80 ± 0.09 and 0.21 ± 0.02 mm while that of female was 0.88 ± 0.13 and 0.24 ± 0.04 mm, respectively.
