"The Dynamics of Conflict Resolution: A Practitioner's Guide"*

Abstract

This article intends to introduce the textbook named The Dynamics of Conflict Resolution: A Practitioner's Guide which aims to exhaustively present the concepts of conflict and conflict resolution guideline, including assorted types and levels of conflict under the modern conflict paradigm. As its explanation consisting of obvious conceptual frameworks, relevant case studies and examples from the real conflict management experiences taking place in various social contexts, this book, therefore, is beneficial in academic research for developing innovative knowledge about conflict management. Furthermore, it is practically helpful for executive and conflict management agents to use as a direction to ease any conflict situation. This book is composed of 11 chapters, divided into two main parts. The first four chapters attempt to clarify the understanding of conflict, covering the definition of conflict, conflict viewpoint, characteristics of conflict, cause of conflict, and the process of conflict occurrence within many types of social context. It also identifies other factors relating to interaction between human and social which have an influence on conflict. The second part of this book presents the direction and the procedure of conflict resolution, including in chapter 5 to chapter 11 which mention the nature and characteristics of conflict resolution, the analysis of conflict situation to define the appropriate level of complicated conflict, and the concept of conflict transformation. Then, the importance of communication is followed as the basis of conflict resolution procedure, including the effective communication and negotiation process. It also presents the importance and definition of impasse in conflict situation, and explains how to overcome it. These contents aforementioned bring about the alternative conflict resolution which integrates the various conflict management tools together to be the new approach according to the dynamic state of conflict. Finally, it summarizes the overall conflict management, the significance of developing the new conflict management approach, and the necessary characteristics of the conflict management agent.
