Abstract
Indigenous growing pigs (45; 2–2.5m old of 7.55±0.1 kg BW) divided into 5 equal groups (4 males and 5 females) were fed a iso-caloric and iso-nitrogenous grower ration (T1), 75% of which was replaced (on DM basis) either with kitchen waste (T2), or kitchen and rice fermented waste combined in equal proportion (T3), 100% kitchen waste (T4) or kitchen and rice fermented waste combined equal proportion completely (T5) for 135 days. Pigs received 100% kitchen waste (T4) achieved highest body weight (27.83 kg) as well as daily weight gain (160.04 g) than the other groups of pigs. The feed intake was almost similar among the five groups but feed conversion efficiency was higher (P<0.01) in kitchen waste fed group (T4) as compared to groups T3, T5 and T1. Cost of feed per kg gain in body weight was lowest (Rs. 24.86) in T5 followed by T4 (Rs. 27.60), T3 (Rs. 32.79), T2 (Rs. 34.98) and highest (Rs. 50.70) in T1 group.
