Abstract
Bioassay with metabolic synergists has been carried out to identify the detoxifying enzymes in the malathion resistant population of stored grain pests. In Sitophilus oryzae, PBO (Piperonyl butoxide) and TPP (Triphenyl phosphate) exhibited significantly high level of synergism at 1000 ppm with malathion, and recorded suppression of resistance (SR) to the extent of 78.37 and 76.57 per cent, respectively. DEM (Diethyl maleate) slightly suppressed malathion resistance (SR = 24.32 per cent). Similarly, in case of Tribolium castaneum, PBO recorded moderate level of synergism with SR (SR = 42.36%), whereas TPP and DEM slightly reduced malathion resistance with a SR of 25.16 and 18.64 per cent, respectively.
