Abstract

Asphodelus tenuifolius, Chenopodium album and Avena ludoviciana were the prominent weeds infesting the experimental field. Integration of one hand weeding (30 DAS) with follow up application of thiazopyr at 120 g ha−1 reduced the density and dry weight of these weeds significantly attaining WCE to the tune of 94% and yield levels comparable to the treatment of two hand weedings (30 and 60 DAS) and weed-free check. Alone applications of thiazopyr (at 120, 180, 240 and 300 g ha−1 pre-emergence), trifluralin (at 1000, 1250 g ha−1 and pre-plant incorporation), chlorimuron (at 6 and 8 g ha-1 20 DAS) and linuron (at 750 and 1000 g ha−1 pre-emergence) resulted in poor weed control and lower seed yield compared to thiazopyr integrated with manual weeding. Chlorimuron proved highly phytotoxic (82–93%) to the crop. Weeds growing throughout the crop season reduced the chickpea yield to the extent of 39.2%.
