Discussion of Intercultural Pragmatic Failure Caused by Improper Use of Politeness

Owing to the differences of cultural backgrounds, different cultures have different criteria and ways of expression concerning politeness and different peoples have different understanding of politeness. And languages differ greatly from culture to culture in expressing and judging politeness. Without understanding their differences, it is difficult to achieve a successful intercultural communication and may even cause serious intercultural pragmatic failures. In view of such observations, it intends to probe into intercultural pragmatic failure caused by improper use of politeness which substantially improves the language users’ intercultural pragmatic awareness. Therefore, such an exploration undoubtedly would increase the culture awareness of language users,decrease pragmatic failure and help to achieve the effective cross-cultural communication.
