Abstract

In this study, the data were used in analyses of variance (ANOVA), maximum likelihood (ML) and restricted maximum likelihood (REML) tests obtained from the live weights of Japanese quails one-day old to 10 weeks of age. Quails have been model animals before starting to genetic studies in other farm animals. For this purpose, the acceptable limit of heritability that take place between 0-1 and satisfying the condition that the model predictions are focused on the positive. In this study, which examined heritability of 0.50 and 0.73 in terms of traits and genetic improvement works that have been identified with the heritability can be increased. The highest estimation value was obtained by REML method.
