[The cities of the North and the cities of the South: some reflections on rural-urban relations].

The author analyzes the rapid growth of urbanization in the developing world and attempts to spell out some of the consequences. The author develops the hypothesis that, in contrast to the experience of the now developed world, contemporary urban growth is a hindrance rather than a help to the development process in the third world.
