Abstract
The excavation for the Genting Centre, in Sydney's Central Business District (CBD) adjacent to existing railway tunnels is described. The excavation involved a 29m to 36m deep excavation carried out in sandstone and is among the deepest non-mining excavations completed to date in Australia. The excavation was carried out adjacent to six railway tunnels parallel to one side of the excavation. The influence of excavation on deformations of these tunnels was an important design consideration. Comparisons between field measurements and numerical predictions are presented, with a summary of results of construction monitoring of the site retention system.
