Abstract
Studies on the differential toxicity of two isolates of entomogenous fungi viz., Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae carried out against tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura and Spilarctia obliqua indicated that the activity decreased with the advancement of age of larvae. On the basis of LC50 and LT50 values, Pantnagar isolates of both fungi had more potency to kill S. litura and S. obliqua than IMTECH, Chandigarh strains. In general B. bassiana was more virulent than M. anisopliae to both insects. Pantnagar isolate of B. bassiana was 1.57 – 8.00 and 1.6 – 2.88 times more virulent than MTCC 984 while M. anisopliae Pantnagar isolate was 112.55–408.11 and 41 – 3460 times more active than MTCC 829, to S. litura and S. obliqua, respectively.
