Abstract
To investigate the protective effects of astaxanthin on CCl4-induced acute hepatic injury in mice,forty-eight mice were divided into six groups(normal control group,CCl4 model group, bifendate group, low dose, medium dose and high dose of astaxanthin group).Mouse models of acute liver injury were induced by intraperitoneal injection of CCl4.After 24 hours, the levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),albumin(ALB) and total protein(TP) in serum and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and the activity of super oxide dismutase(SOD) in liver were detected. Results showed that the serum levels of ALT and AST in CCl4-induced liver injury mice were significantly decreased by astaxanthin treatment. And the activity of SOD was increased and the content of MDA was decreased in mice liver by astaxanthin. It was concluded that Astaxanthin has protective effects on the liver injury induced by CCl4 in mice.
