Abstract
Present field studies entitled “Efficacy of botanicals for the management of sorghum shoot fly” were undertaken using sorghum hybrid CSH-9 at insectory farm, Agriculture College Nagpur, Maharashtra, during rabi season 2011–2012. Amongst all the treatments imidacloprid 17.8 SL 0.004% found most effective against shoot fly oviposition as it has recorded minimum 3.67 eggs/plant which was at par with Azadirachtin 1500 ppm recorded 3.83 eggs/plant. Regarding formation of dead hearts, imidacloprid 17.8 SL registered minimum dead hearts to the extent of 19.55%. Azadirachtin 1500 ppm was the next best treatment amongst botanicals and recorded 23.98% dead hearts. Maximum grain yield i.e. 31.70 q/ha of sorghum was obtained from imidacloprid 17.8 SL 0.004% and among the botanicals, Azadirachtin 1500 ppm @ 2 ml/lit & Neem seed extract 5% gave maximum grain yield of 26.64 q/ha and 26.37 q/ha, respectively. The most economically viable ICBR i.e. 1:15.46 was recorded in the treatment imidacloprid 17.8 SL 0.004%. Amongst botanicals Azadirachtin 1500 ppm @ 2 ml/lit (1:4.68) found most viable treatment.
