Conditions for peace : the state, private sector and civil society : : feature

To build and maintain an environment for sustainable peace in Africa you need three sectors, namely the state, the private sector and civil society. There are three elements of the state that ought to exist in order to ensure a strong state that is able to carry out its mandate in a way that is responsive to the needs of the people of a country, namely a separation of powers; professional and accountable security agencies; and strong political parties based on values. A clear segregation of powers is needed between the administrative, legislative and the judicial sectors of government.
