Hypoglycaemic activity of the aqueous extract of Orthosiphon stamineus

Abstract

Preliminary investigations were carried out to evaluate the effects of the aqueous extract of O. stamineus on the blood glucose levels in both normal and diabetic rats. Significant hypoglycaemic effect was observed in normal rats treated orally with 1.0 g/kg of the extract. Also the hyperglycaemic effect induced by streptozotocin was inhibited by the same dose.
