Efficacy of intense pulsed light for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Objective:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of intense pulsed light for the treatment of acne vulgaris.Methods:A total of 120 patients with acne vulgaris were randomly divided into treatment group(60 cases)and control group(60 cases).The treatment group was treated with YK-IPL560 therapy apparatus,once every two weeks,5 times as a course.The control group was treated with topical application of tazarotene cream,once per night,8 weeks as a course.Skin lesions including number of acne,pimples,boils,nodules and its progression were observed and compared before and after the treatment.Results:Eleven cases in the treatment groups were cured,27 cases showed obvious therapeutic effects,18 cases showed effects while 4 cases showed no response to the treatment;in the control group,the corresponding number was 9,18,16 and 17 cases.The total effective rate of the treatment group was 90.1%,significant higher than the 71.1% of the control group(P0.01),indicating the effects of the treatment group was better.Conclusions:Being easy to be operated,and well tolerated to patients,YK-IPL560 therapy apparatus shows good effects for treating mild to moderate inflammatory acne,acne scars,pigmentation,and enlarged pores.
