Abstract
Morphology, physicochemical and chemical characteristics of six typical pedons formed on sandstone, basalt and alluvium, representing different landforms in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh were studied. Good physiography -soil relationship has been established. Soils at higher elevations are less developed and have low pH. CaCO3, clay content, CEC and exchangeable cations than the soils in lower elevations. Differences in soil development are due to differences in parent material, vegetation and elevation. The soils have been classified taxonomically as Vertisols, Inceptisols and Entisols.
