Abstract

A trial was conducted to evaluate the usefulness of (nifuratel) in the treatment of vaginitis. 64 patients with vaginitis were treated with magmilor tablets (1 200-mg tablet 3 times daily for 7 days) and magmilor vaginal pessaries (1 250-mg pessary each night for 10 days). High vaginal swabs were taken and tested at the time the women were examined initially and 14 days after treatment. In the 5 cases in which the swab revealed a trichomonal infection the male consort was treated with magmilor tablets (1 200-mg tablet 3 times daily for 7 days). On Day 14 39 patients said that all symptoms and discharge had disappeared 19 claimed a marked improvement in symptoms and discharge and 6 reported no change. The negative posttreatment high vaginal swab was 100% negative for Trichomonas vaginalis 90% negative for Candida albicans 41.2% negative for pathogenic bacteria and 12.5% negative for nonpathogenic bacteria. No association between vaginitis and oral contraceptive pills could be demonstrated.
