Organic farming: The concept toward environmental protection

It has been concluded based on many studies that the future of agricultural development in the 21st century will involve sustainable agriculture as the alternative to conventional agriculture. It is considered that the future of agriculture will rest on flexible cultural practices, developments of biotechnology and appreciation of basic ecological principles in soil usage. It is supposed to preserve and renew soil fertility as an important resource which has to be used by future generations. The concept and some definitions of sustainable agriculture are reviewed. Most of them, except for agro ecosystem protection, include various economic, environmental and sociological aspects in transition of primary agricultural production systems. The successful management of agricultural resources in satisfying changing human needs, while maintaining or enhancing the quality of the environment and conserving natural resources, indicate long term development imperative in stable food production. Advances in the productivity, profitability and stability of modern cropping systems that will have to be achieved on an ecologically sustainable basis have a global character. Organic agriculture is a holistic way of farming: besides production of goods of high quality, an important aim is the conservation of the natural resources, fertile soil, clean water and rich biodiversity. Organic farming systems have their important application in production of vegetables and fruits with an extraordinary nutritive and protective role.
