Abstract
The Polarographic behaviour of ethyl thioglycolate, HS-CH2-COOC2H5 (GSH), has been studied in 40% ethanolmedia at D.M.E. in the pH range of 1.50-12.66, using different buffers in the presence of 0.1 M KNO3 and 0.002% Triton X-100. A single well defined irreversible anodic wave was obtained which was found to shift towards more negative potentials with increase in pH. The E 1/2 values obtained at different pH values were used to evaluate the dissociation constant of sulfhydryl group; the pK value has been found to be 8.20. The effects of various factors e.g. concentration of GSH, drop time, temperature and ethanol concentration on the wave characteristics have been investigated. The values of kinetic parameters, formal rate constant k o b, h and transfer coefficient have been calculated by Koutecky’s method and were found to to be 1.542 × 10−5 cm/s and 0.3224 respectively.
