Urban Regeneration and Its Realities in Urban China

Based on the Western and Chinese literature of urban regeneration, this paper reviewsurban regenerationin urban China since 1949.China's open door policy has accelerated the pace of urbanization and led to an urgent need of restructuring the socialist urban fabric to cater for new socio-economic developments. Urban regeneration experience in Western countries suggests that institutional reforms and the mode of governance hold the key to realizing comprehensive urban regeneration objectives.
