THE DEMERSAL FISH RESOURCES OF THE NORTHERN PART OF THE ARABIAN SEA DURING 1975 AND 1976

Abstract

An analysis of the demersal fish catch by the Iraqi trawlers in the northern part of the northern Ara­ bian Sea indicated that the highest catch rate (kg/h) was in April in both years. Despite the highly signi­ ficant variations of the catch rates, Sciaenidae, Stromateidae, Clupeidae and Carangidae seem to be the abundant commercial fish families in both the years. Monthly biomass diversity showed wide range which indicated that the study area could be classified as rich fishery area.
