Abstract
Silting of a reservoir is a natural process which starts once the river channel is dammed and ends when the reservoir is practically filled with sediments. Eventually, this process destroys the ability of the scheme to deliver the benefits for which it was built. It is an unavoidable process, that can not be stopped, but it can be controlled to some degree by means of certain practices, measures and works. These practices, measures and works which may be adopted to control the sediment entry and deposition in the reservoir and for removal of the accumulated sediment from the reservoir are highlighted in this paper.
