Abstract

The effect of dietary supplementation of garlic (Allium sativum) at graded doses (0.25, 0.50 and 0.75% of feed) in experimental aflatoxicosis were studied using AFB1 @ 300 ppb in broilers for histopathological studies. The histopathological changes of control and toxin fed groups were compared with those groups fed with toxin and different doses of garlic. Feeding aflatoxin severely affected the liver, bursa of Fabricius, proventriculus and kidneys, while no changes were noticed in brain, spleen and heart. However, dietary supplementation of garlic at various doses of 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 per cent along with toxin added diet reversed the damages in the liver, bursa of Fabricius, proventriculus and kidneys. Among the doses of garlic @ 0.50 per cent level showed the best result since 0.75 per cent level did not show further improvement and indicated partial protective effect of garlic.
